REAL HEROES   ORDINARY PEOPLE. EXTRAORDINARY COURAGE.

Nominate someone you know

Dear Red Cross Supporters,

The Mt. Baker Chapter's Annual Real Heroes Celebration is drawing near once again. This year's highly anticipated event is scheduled for November 13th 2008.  On this evening the Mt. Baker Chapter will honor local community members who have been nominated by their friends or family as a Real Hero.

A Real Hero is an ordinary person. A Real Hero is a friend, family member, a neighbor, co-worker, even a trained professional that has gone above and beyond the ordinary. They have chosen to step forward and make a difference, possibly save a life.

Acts of heroism are big and small.  They affect one person or an entire community.  Heroes step forward during fires and floods or other disasters. They respond at the scene of an accident, injury or health crisis.  They work to prepare or prevent disasters. Whatever the circumstance, these outstanding citizens deserve to be recognized.

Each year the American Red Cross honors Real Heroes in our community.  Please support the Red Cross by joining us in honoring these Real Heroes by being a sponsor or by nominating someone you know as a Real Hero.  Your contribution will help us tell the stories of these outstanding community members while also supporting the work of the American Red Cross at a local level.

For information on how you can sponsor this event please email info@mtbredcross.org. To nominate someone you know to receive a Real Hero Award click here and tell us their story!

Sincerely,

Laura Fitzgerald, Public Support Coordinator

Do you know a young person in the community with a high sense of leadership, desire to work in the community and develop their personal and professional skills?

Nominate them to sit on the Red Cross Youth Leadership Council

The Mt. Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross youth leadership program is designed to encourage and nurture humanitarian work through hands on learning. This is an opportunity for young leaders in our community to get active locally with a world wide organization.

The complete council is a youth led group of self motivated individuals that work to further the Red Cross mission through community projects that the group initiates and facilitates. Youth Leadership Council members are also involved in a variety of community leadership and service learning activities including:

  • Ambassadors - acting as ambassadors at chapter and in the community.
  • Educators - Teaching others to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies through disaster preparedness and first aid training.
  • Fundraising - raising money for international, national and local chapter services.
  • Leadership Events - attending a variety of different events, including a local Leadership Development seminar and/or week camp, National Youth Institutes and the American Red Cross National Convention.

Youth Leadership Council members develop and implement projects in their communities and schools with the support and supervision of the Public Support Coordinator.
